WASTE TRANSFER STATIONS
Cook Shire manages a number of waste transfer facilities across the Shire.
To help keep Cook Shire’s waste transfer stations safe, efficient and welcoming for everyone, please follow these conditions whenever you visit. By entering the site, you agree to follow all signage and staff directions, dispose of eligible waste responsibly and treat staff and other customers with respect.
- All customers must stop at the site office.
- Council reserves the right to inspect all loads.
- Follow all signage and directions given by authorised personnel.
- Enclosed footwear must be worn onsite at all times.
- Children must remain inside vehicles at all times.
- No animals or pets allowed onsite and must remain in the vehicle.
- Smoking, vaping or consumption of alcohol onsite is prohibited.
- Offensive and abusive language and/or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Unlawful entry, unauthorised scavenging and unauthorised disposal of waste is prohibited.
- All waste delivered to site must be unloaded by customers (no assistance from Council staff).
- Only eligible waste can be accepted and Council reserves the right to decline receipt of the waste.
- No scavenging at all times – if you see anything you would like to purchase, please talk to our friendly staff.
- Stack you loads to minimise air space. All loads are priced on volumetric assessment of the load using the following formula: height x length x width of the load.
- You agree to make payment for use of the Facility in accordance with Council’s Waste Disposal Fees and Council may pursue avenues for recovery of any amounts owed by you relating to the use of the Facility.
- All disposal fees will be quoted prior to dumping. No disputes will be accepted once the waste has been dumped.

Competition Entry Locations:
Batteries must be presented to staff at the Ayton, Cooktown, Lakeland or Laura Waste Transfer Stations to be weighed and counted as Competition entries.*

During normal Waste Transfer Station operating hours only.
Batteries must be presented to Waste Transfer Station staff before being placed in the battery collection unit.
