Cook Shire Libraries

Join your local library today to access a world of education and imagination! Cook Shire has libraries at Bloomfield and Cooktown. Our libraries stock magazines, CDs, DVDs, large print books, audio books on cassette and CD, books in other languages, language learning kits and an extensive range of adult and junior fiction and non-fiction books.

All our libraries offer Wi-Fi. Vouchers are available upon request from your friendly librarian, and access is free for the first hour and $3 for every hour after. A maximum of two one-hour vouchers will be issued per person, per day.
 
Other facilities include an inter-library loan service, allowing access to the collections of the Queensland State Library and other libraries around Australia, and photocopying and reading areas where tea and coffee is on offer. Click here to access the online library catalogue.
 
E-Resources

Your library card can unlock a world of information and entertainment - including e-books, magazines and movies - with our range of e-resouces.

Zinio magazines

Library members can access hundreds of magazines free on their computer or mobile device using the Zinio e-magazine platform. Magazines available include National Geographic, Woman's Weekly, Men's Fitness, 4x4 Magazine Australia and many more. Click here to register with your Rural Libraries Queensland membership number and PIN code.

Lynda.com training

Lynda.com is an elearning platform that includes over 5,500 courses and over 136,000 video tutorials. Topics include Windows 10, Office 365, Google Docs, photography, web development, marketing, IT, business management, and job seeking. Experts create and deliver all courses as well as provide supplemental materials like exercise files and relevant work samples. Visit the State Library's website for more information on how to access Lynda.com

State Library databases

One Search uses the Ex Libris Primo system to provide access to all of State Library's collections. It allows searching across collections and across numerous online resources at the same time. You can add your own tags to the records of any State Library resources, as well as saving your favourite records and searches. Ebooks and digital publications

There are thousands of ebooks in the State and Rural libraries collection. You can read e-books online using an internet browser, download them to your mobile device and print or copy pages. Membership

Library membership is free for permanent residents of Cook Shire. 

Becoming a member is easy - simply fill out a membership form at your library and provide two forms of identification which show a local residential address. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian will need to sign for you. If you are not a permanent resident, we also offer tourist memberships.
