Tech Savvy Seniors Program

If you are a local senior and you want to learn more about technology, such as computers, smart phones, the internet, online banking and more, Tech Savvy Seniors is for you!

Cook Shire Council is holding a free introduction to the Tech Savvy Seniors program at both the Bloomfield and Cooktown libraries on Wednesday, August 23, from 10am to 12pm. The sessions will include a free morning tea, and offer an introduction to the Tech Savvy program.

Cook Shire Library Services

Cook Shire has libraries at Bloomfield and at Cooktown.
 
Our libraries stock magazines, CDs, DVDs, large print books, audio books on cassette and CD, books in other languages, language learning kits and an extensive range of adult and junior fiction and non-fiction books.

Services and facilities available from the library network include:

  • Computers - bookings can be made in person or by phoning a library.  Word processing is free. Charges apply for internet use and printing. Internet use is free for library members within limits.
  • WiFi internet access is available from all libraries.
  • Photocopying.
  • Laminating.
  • Children's activities.
  • Storytelling and craft.
  • Community language materials.
  • Reference services.
  • Inter-library loans.
  • Local history collections.
  • Community information.
  • Library tours for community groups and schools (by appointment).
  • LOTE (languages other than English) and dual text items are available on request.
  • E-resources.
All our libraries offer a Wi-Fi service. Vouchers are available upon request from your friendly librarian at a cost of $4.50 per hour for non-members or free for the first hour and $3.50 for the second hour to Cook Shire library and Rural Libraries Queensland members. A maximum of two one hour vouchers will be issued per person per day.
 
Other facilities include an inter-library loan service - allowing access to the collections of the Queensland State Library and other libraries around Australia - photocopying and reading areas where tea and coffee is on offer, and the Business Incubation Hub. Click here to access the online library catalogue
 
Library members can also access hundreds of magazines free on their computer or mobile device using the Zinio e-magazine platform. Magazines available include National Geographic, Woman's Weekly, Men's Fitness, 4x4 Magazine Australia and many more. Click here to register with your Rural Libraries Queensland membership number and PIN code.

Membership

Library membership is free for permanent residents of Cook Shire Local Government Area. 

Becoming a member is easy - simply fill out a membership form at a library and provide two forms of identification with a local residential address.

If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian will need to sign for you.

If you are not a permanent resident we offer tourist memberships.
