The community of Coen received a much-needed resupply of essential goods today, thanks to a coordinated effort between Cook Shire Council, Mayi Market, Armbrust General Store, Daintree Air, Queensland Police Service (QPS), St John’s Aged Care and Emergency Services.Â
With ongoing weather challenges impacting road access, more than 1,280kg of fresh and frozen food, along with dry stores, were airlifted from Cairns to Coen early this morning. The two Piper Chieftain aircraft departed Cairns around 7:30 AM this morning, ensuring vital supplies reached the community in a timely manner. Another four more plane loads were delivered over the course of the day.
Cook Shire Council, working closely with key partners, played a pivotal role in ensuring the logistics of the operation ran smoothly. The successful airlift highlights the importance of strong interagency collaboration in supporting remote communities during times of need.
This mission reflects the ongoing commitment of all agencies involved to support Coen and other remote communities affected by seasonal disruptions. With partnerships like these, Cook Shire continues to build resilience and ensure no community is left without support.
