Cook Shire Council is once again offering Free Dumping Days this April-May to help residents prepare for extreme weather.
Our weather can be unpredictable, but your preparation doesn’t have to be.
Take advantage of these free clean-up days (from 26 April until 11 May during each waste transfer stations’ regular operating hours) to clear your property of potential hazards and debris. A clean yard is safer for your family and helps protect your home during fires, floods, and storms.
What’s FREE to dump during these extreme weather clean-up days?
- Green Waste: Palm fronds, branches, trees, coconuts
- Mixed Construction Waste: Treated timber, old fence posts, pallets, plasterboard, ply, and similar materials
- Mixed construction materials: treated timber, old fence posts, pallets, plasterboard, ply, etc.
- Packing materials: plastic and cardboard packaging
- Outdoor furniture: excludes beds and mattresses
- Broken wheelie bins
- Asbestos: up to 200L, double-wrapped in 0.2mm plastic bag (Visqueen), sealed with tape and clearly marked.
* Please note: All waste must be pre-sorted into single waste streams. Mixed/ unsorted waste will be charged according to council fees and charges.
Items that are always free to dump:
- Scrap metal (excluding fridges, air-conditioners, gas bottles, fire extinguishers)
- Car batteries
- E-waste: TVs, computers, printers, and accessories
- Regulated waste: Up to 20L of oils, paints, and coolants
- Chemicals and pesticides: Up to 5L
- Packing materials: Plastic and cardboard packaging

- Tyres
- Mixed household waste
- Commercial waste
- Beds and mattresses
- Fridges, freezers, air-conditioners
- Concrete, soil, and bricks
