Cook Shire Council has successfully completed an essential food resupply to the remote community of Coen, delivering 3,301 kilograms of vital goods on Friday 27 February 2026.
The coordinated effort ensured shelves were restocked with key food items, supporting residents and local businesses as part of ongoing wet season preparedness planning. Council’s Coen team managed the on-ground distribution, ensuring supplies were efficiently received and delivered where needed.
This year’s resupply marks a significant improvement in forward planning and local capacity. In 2025, the total resupply reached 4,365 kilograms. Through close collaboration with local store operators, Council has helped increase dry storage capacity and provided education to new shop owners on effective pre-wet season restocking practices.
As a result, this year’s dry goods resupply has been reduced by close to 1,000 kilograms. A strong indication that preparation measures are working and that local businesses are better equipped to manage seasonal supply challenges.
Cook Shire Council remains committed to supporting our remote communities like Coen through practical planning, strong local partnerships and proactive disaster readiness strategies.
