Disaster recovery grants now available for Cook Shire communities

The Federal and State Governments have announced disaster assistance to support recovery efforts for communities across Queensland impacted by flooding and Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

Cook Shire Council is encouraging eligible residents and community organisations in the Cook Shire localities of Archer River, Coen, Edward River, Holroyd River, Iron Range, Jardine River, Lakefield, Lizard Island, Lockhart River, Mapoon, Mission River, Shelburne, Starcke, Wenlock and Yarraden to apply for Emergency Hardship Assistance.

This support provides payments of $180 per individual and up to $900 for families of five or more to assist with essential items such as food, clothing and medicine.

Additional assistance is available for low-income, uninsured residents through Structural Assistance Grants of up to $80,000 to help repair homes and restore them to a safe and habitable condition.

Not-for-profit organisations in Cook Shire impacted by flooding may also be eligible for disaster loans of up to $100,000 to support immediate recovery and ongoing operations.

These measures are part of a broader package of disaster assistance aimed at supporting recovery across regional and remote Queensland communities affected by recent flooding and cyclone activity.

All funding is provided under the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Council encourages anyone impacted to check their eligibility and apply as soon as possible.
