Cook Shire Council’s Youth After-School Program Wraps a Successful Term 1 – Term 2 Coming Soon

Cook Shire Council’s youth after-school program has concluded an outstanding Term 1, and we’re excited to announce that Term 2 is on the way. Save the date — full details coming soon.

Term 1: A Program That Delivered
Cook Shire Council, in partnership with the Cooktown District Community Centre (CDCC), delivered one of the most successful youth after-school programs in the shire’s recent history across Term 1.

Week after week, the program brought young people together in a safe, inclusive and engaging space, with each of the three sessions welcoming more than 70 young people. From group sports, games and shared experiences, the program gave Cooktown’s youth a place to connect, make new friends and thrive after school.

A heartfelt thank you goes to every young person who attended, to the families who supported them, and to the dedicated staff who made it all possible.

Term 2: Save the Date
The Cook Shire Council youth after-school program returns for Term 2, kicking off on Friday 24 April 2026. The Cooktown Events Centre is absolutely buzzing this term — sporting groups are back in full swing and new activities like yoga have joined the weekly lineup, filling the centre with energy from Monday through Thursday. Friday afternoon is where the term 2 youth program steps in — an action-packed session for young people to get active, get loud, and finish the school week on the biggest high possible.

Join us for a free Community Day on Thursday 23 April, open to absolutely everyone — no registration required. Come along, meet the team, and be among the first to hear full details about the Term 2 program.

Further details to be announced soon. Stay tuned to Cook Shire Council’s website and Facebook page.

Why the Program Matters
Access to safe, structured after-school activities is essential for young people in remote and regional Queensland communities. Cook Shire Council’s program supports youth wellbeing, social connection and community belonging, values at the heart of everything we do across the shire’s seven remote townships.

We look forward to seeing you on 23 April — watch this space!
