Continuing our commitment to improving animal welfare and community safety in Coen, a visiting veterinarian is set to deliver free services next Wednesday and Thursday (22 & 23 April 2026) as part of the Healthy Dogs program.
Funded through the Healthy Dogs, Healthy Communities initiative, the program supports better health outcomes for dogs while helping create safer, healthier communities across the region. It forms part of Council’s 2025–26 Operational Plan (OP26-16) and delivers on action identified in the Community Scorecard Action Plan
The upcoming visit will provide a range of essential services, including basic health checks, desexing, worming, and flea, tick and parasite treatments.
Council recognises that access to veterinary care can be limited in remote communities like Coen, and programs like this play a vital role in supporting responsible pet ownership and reducing the number of roaming and unwanted animals.
Animal management continues to be a key focus for Council, with preventative initiatives like the Healthy Dogs program delivering real, long-term benefits for both pets and the community.
Coen residents are encouraged to bring their dogs along to JS Love Building or contact Cook Shire Council on 4082 0500 for more information.
