Drinking water now safe to consume
Lakeland residents are being advised that the boil water alert issued on 18 May 2026 has now been lifted.
Following the completion of repairs to the Lakeland water treatment system, flushing of the water network, and satisfactory water quality testing, tap water is now safe to use for all normal purposes.
There is no longer a public health concern regarding the quality of the drinking water supply.
Residents may now use tap water for:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Preparing food and beverages
- Making ice
- Preparing baby formula
- Showering and bathing
- Washing dishes
- Laundry and household cleaning
- Flushing toilets
Council’s Water and Wastewater Team has worked closely with Queensland Health to restore normal treatment processes and confirm the safety of the water supply. Ongoing monitoring of the system will continue as part of standard operations.
As a precaution, residents are encouraged to flush internal household plumbing by running cold water taps for several minutes before normal use.
Council thanks the Lakeland community for its patience, cooperation and understanding while essential repairs and testing were undertaken.
Residents are encouraged to share this notice with neighbours, family members and anyone who may not have seen this update.
