Department of Education is seeking community feedback on future education facilities in Coen

Coen residents are reminded that there is still time to provide feedback to the Queensland Department of Education on proposed future improvements to Coen Kindergarten and the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) Coen campus.

The Queensland Department of Education is currently seeking community feedback on draft education master plans developed through its Discrete Communities Infrastructure (DCI) Program. The program aims to improve educational facilities in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through a co-design process involving local stakeholders.

Over the past 12 months, community representatives, school staff and the Department of Education have worked together to develop draft master plans and identify potential future projects for both sites.

The draft plans include a range of proposed improvements, including upgraded learning spaces, cultural and outdoor learning areas, play spaces, accessibility improvements, parking and drop-off facilities, and community infrastructure. The Department has advised that all proposed projects are currently unfunded and subject to future consideration.
