Cooktown Swimming Pool on track for September reopening

The return to the water is getting closer, with works at the Cooktown Swimming Pool progressing towards the anticipated reopening on Saturday 19 September 2026.

Following the chlorination system upgrade and pool surface works, the project is moving into its final stages before the community can dive back in.

What’s next?

There are still a few important steps to complete before the pool can safety reopen.

Once painting is complete, the pool surface will need time to fully cure before the pool can be refilled. From there, initial chemical dosing will take place, followed by water quality testing to ensure everything is ready.
The final steps will include preparations for the Cooktown Swimming Pool Open Day, which is planned to mark the pool’s reopening on Saturday 19 September.

As with all outdoor works, progress remains weather dependent.

Celebrate the reopening at the Pool Open Day

The Cooktown Swimming Pool will reopen with a free community Open Day on Saturday 19 September.
There’ll be free pool entry from 10am to 4.30pm, with Open Day activities running from 10am to 2pm, plus free food and drinks while supplies last and a lucky door prize.
It’s a chance for families, friends and regular swimmers to get back together, enjoy the upgraded pool and celebrate the return of a much-loved community facility.

Annual pool passes

Annual pool pass holders will have their passes extended by two months to account for the closure period.
Pass holders do not need to take any action for the extension.
Thank you to the community for its patience while the works are completed. Further updates will be shared if there are any changes to the anticipated reopening date.
