Another chance to clean up and cash in at the Cooktown Markets

Cooktown residents are getting another chance to clear the clutter, make some extra cash and get their homes ready for the coming disaster season, with Spring into the Markets returning on Saturday 17 October.

The second market activation follows a great community response to September’s Spring into the Markets, which brought around 10 additional stalls to the Cooktown Markets selling everything from clothing and household items to camping gear.

We heard that many of you loved the idea but needed a little more time to tackle your cupboards, sheds and yards.

So, Cooktown – here’s your second chance.

With the wet season approaching, October is a great time to have a proper clean-up around the home: clear out the shed, sort through cupboards, tidy the yard and deal with all those things you’ve been meaning to get around to.

But before useful items head for the bin, consider whether someone else could give them another life.

Clothes, tools, camping gear, toys, books, plants, furniture and household items could all become someone else’s market-day bargain while putting a few extra dollars back in your pocket.

Council’s reduced $10 once-off non-food market stall fee makes it an affordable way for residents to turn their clean-up into a stall. Community groups and clubs are also encouraged to get involved and use the morning as a fundraising opportunity.

The October event will continue the simple message behind Spring into the Markets: clean up, sell it, swap it, reuse it and recycle it wherever possible.

Clearing unnecessary clutter from around homes and properties is also a practical step residents can take now as Cook Shire heads towards the summer disaster season.
