Mayor

Cr Robyn holmes

Robyn’s journey into local government began in 2016 when she was elected as a Councillor, motivated by a desire to serve her community and enact positive change. Her tenure saw her rise to the position of Deputy Mayor, a role she held for six years prior to the 2024 Local Government Election where she was elected as Mayor.

Robyn has a genuine passion for Cook Shire, which began almost 20 years ago, when she moved to Cooktown with her husband and two children. Both children completed their primary school years in Cooktown, and are currently living in Canberra, after moving there to attend university. The reason for Robyn’s relocation to the region was to support her husband and his work on two family run cattle stations. Robyn re-joined the Queensland Police Service at Cooktown as the Administration Officer and worked at the Cooktown Police Station until this year, following her election as Mayor.

During her time as a Councillor, Robyn has served on Council’s Audit and Risk Committee, Local Disaster Management Group, various steering committees and working groups, supporting youth, childcare, aged care, health, the environment and Indigenous communities. She is also a member and advocate of various community groups.

With a career spanning more than 25 years with the Queensland Police Service, and two previous terms in local government, Robyn brings a wealth of experience in emergency and disaster management, compliance and legislation, organisational processes and planning, advocacy and community engagement to her role as Mayor.
