Cooktown State School students are helping shape the future of our community, with more than 60 students aged 14 and over completing Cook Shire Council’s 2025 Community Scorecard following a recent visit from Mayor Robyn Holmes this week.
During her visit, the Mayor introduced the purpose of the Scorecard and encouraged students to share their thoughts on what matters most to them — from roads, parks and public spaces to waste services, youth activities, and local priorities.
The strong response from students highlights just how important it is to engage with young people and include their perspectives in planning for the Shire’s future. Their feedback, along with that of the broader community, will help Council better understand local priorities and improve service delivery.
The Community Scorecard is open to all Cook Shire residents aged 14 and over and offers a quick, anonymous way to rate Council’s performance and suggest areas for improvement.
The survey is open until 28 March 2025 and can be completed online or by collecting a hardcopy from Council’s main office, Cooktown Library or Nature’s Powerhouse.
Survey results will be made available in May 2025 and will directly inform Council’s planning and decision-making over the next two years.
