Lakeland Residents Advised to Boil Drinking Water Until Further Notice

Lakeland residents are advised to boil tap water used for drinking and food preparation until further notice due to equipment failure at the Lakeland water treatment system.

As a result, the current water supply is untreated bore water.

Council’s Water and Wastewater Team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore normal treatment processes as quickly as possible.

The boil water alert will remain in place until further notice, once essential repairs have been undertaken and residual untreated water has been flushed from the system.

Consuming unboiled water may lead to illness, particularly for vulnerable people including young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Residents should use cooled boiled water or bottled water for:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing and preparing food or beverages
  • Preparing baby formula
  • Making ice
  • Bathing infants

Unboiled water can still be used for:

  • Showering and bathing (avoid swallowing water)
  • Washing dishes, provided dishes are air-dried
  • Washing clothes
  • Flushing toilets

To ensure water is safe:

  • Bring water to a rolling boil
  • Allow it to cool before use
  • Store boiled water in a clean, sealed container

Electric kettles with automatic cut-off switches are suitable for boiling water.

Residents are encouraged to share this notice with neighbours, family members, and anyone who may not have seen this alert.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertaken important works to repair essential water infrastructure.
