COOKTOWN WATERFRONT CCTV SAFETY INITIATIVE
INSTALLATION OF CCTV CAMERAS
The Cooktown Waterfront CCTV Safety Initiative is a community safety project aimed at protecting key public spaces along the Cooktown waterfront.
Funded through the Secure Communities Partnerships Program 2025–27, the project will install standalone CCTV cameras across Lions Park, Endeavour Park and the Cooktown boat ramp. Cameras will be positioned to monitor high-use areas and significant points of interest, helping to deter anti-social behaviour and protect important heritage assets.
Site surveys began in early March, with installation expected in late April to early May (subject to approvals) and completion anticipated by June 2026.
Location:
Lions Park, Endeavour Park and Cooktown boat ramp
Scope:
The Cooktown Waterfront CCTV Safety Initiative is a project specifically tailored to the discouragement of anti-social behaviour in Cooktown’s heritage listed parks at the waterfront. The project will involve the instillation of several fully independent CCTV cameras and posts throughout the Lions park, Endeavour park, and the Boat ramp. The cameras are intended to be positioned to monitor historic and significant points of interest (POIs) including:
- the Boat Ramp and commercial area
- the Milbi Wall
- the Queens Steps
- the Cpt. James Cook Statue
- the Musical Ship
- the Cpt. Jame Cook monument and historical cannon
- the Coastguard docking area and boat slip
- the historial Well and Fountain, and
- the Lion’s Park undercover Children’s playground.
Disclaimer: CCTV camera locations could change pending the final review of plan.
This project is Proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Secure Communities Partnerships Program 2025-27 – Round 1 Local Council Small Business Grant.
